The first LP from Ohio-based foursome Tribe of the Mountain. Equal parts cold-blooded Noir film mystique and banned children's book derangement, Vaudevillain's Opera is a foray into an alternate audio universe populated with the vaguely familiar: pirates and pandemics, short-circuits and space-based radio waves. Recorded in a guerrilla fashion at band households around uber-suburb Columbus and within the shaded studios of Athens by a squadron of Ohio University's most talented audio engineering students.
One look at the credits tells you all you need to know. Saxophone and Hammond organ join violin and bass clarinet with drums and electric guitars alongside ripped paper and chains. Pieces that begin as goosebumps end as tirades, waves become cannon-fire, weddings turn into honeymoons turn into hangovers. Songs as voyages.
